Abstract :
Government agencies are confronting with the new challenges arising from the pressure on the water resources caused by the increasing population and decreasing the per capital water. Considering the specific environmental positions of Iran, it seems essential to discuss about the performance and productivity evaluation of the water and urban wastewater of the country. The present paper aims to develop an optimal structure of the resources in addition to evaluate the performance and efficiency of these resources by using data envelopment analysis (DEA). The applied strategy is an analytic strategy based on the mathematical modeling and DEA. The present study covers the water and wastewater companies in Yazd province during 2011. After collecting the required data, the proper mathematical method is developed and the findings are analyzed by using WINQSB and SPSS software. The efficiency level of the companies is identified by designing and running the appropriate DEA model. Ranking the inputs and outputs by a simple additive weighted model, it is found that the number of pumping stations is the most significant input; while, the water production volume is the most significant among the outputs. Regardless of the appropriate facilities in infrastructures, it can be concluded that it is possible to increase the efficiency and productivity in these companies.
