Abstract :
Bioelectrical Impedance analysis has been used extensively for assessing Total Body water and Fat Free Mass of various groups of people. The studies have been conducted earlier on the body composition of different ethnic groups, age groups, different sex, and on cohorts of individual according to their level of physical activeness. To the best of our knowledge, BIA equations for Indian males have yet not been developed. Earlier, scientists have measured various parameters of body composition of Indian population using MALTRON-II. However, literature shows that prediction equations have not been developed for Indian population. For validating methods and developing prediction equations, body composition researchers have been using a statistical method called regression analysis. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to develop and predict BIA equations using data taken from PhD thesis through multiple regression analysis and using R software as a tool for data analysis [1]. The results of present work provide 8 BIA equations in the form of 4 predicting Total Body Water (TBW) and 4 predicting Fat Free Mass (FFM) at the frequency of 50 KHz. These equations have also been developed for other frequencies of 5 KHz, 100 KHz and 200 KHz. All predicted and measured TBW and FFM are compared in the tabular form. The confirmation of close proximity between predicted and measured values of TBW and FFM justified correct direction of R and D works.
