Abstract
With the aim of broadening the applicability of the Setschenow equation, which is not suitable for calculation of the salting effect for partially miscible systems, an extended equation is put forward. The extended Setschenow equation can describe the salting effect on the activity coefficients of both organic solvent and water in the water-rich phase. Twenty ternary LLE systems (butanolwater, butanonewater, propanolwater, acetonewater, ethanolwater and methanolbenzene, all containing salts) are successfully correlated with the extended equation.
