Abstract :
Vapor–liquid equilibrium for the binary systems propane+m-cresol and propane+p-cresol over a pressure range from 0.8 to 4.6 MPa at 343.2, 363.2, and 383.2 K was measured by a dual recirculation technique. The experimental data obtained were correlated using the Peng–Robinson and the Soave–Redlich–Kwong equations of state. It was found that both equations of state combined with the two- and three-parameter mixing rules provided satisfactory prediction for the binary systems. Vapor–liquid equilibrium for the ternary system propane+m-cresol+p-cresol was also measured in this study. The equation of state models using the interaction parameters obtained from the binary systems were found to correlate the ternary system data well. The relative volatility evaluated from the ternary system data indicated that high pressure propane was not an effective solvent to separate cresol isomers.
