Abstract :
The viscosities η and their temperature dependencies dlnη/dT of some 300 liquids, the thermal conductivities λ of some 270 liquids, and the self-diffusion coefficients D of some 70 liquids, all at 298.15 K and 0.1 MPa, have been obtained from the literature to form a database. This has been subjected to a stepwise linear regression program with respect to the thermodynamic properties of these liquids, yielding expressions that describe adequately the transport properties in terms of the thermodynamic ones. These are: log(η/mPa s)=−3.44(V−VX)/V+0.0813ΔVH/RTln10+0.455nOH, dlnη/d(T/K)=−1.94×10−3ΔVH/RTln10−0.0125nOH, Dη=1.297×10−12 m2 Pa, and λ/W m−1 K−1=0.0695(CP/V) (cm3 J−1 K−1)+0.00205 (M/kg mol)−1. Here, V is the molar volume, VX is the intrinsic molar volume, ΔVH is the heat of vaporization, CP is the molar heat capacity at 298.15 K, M is the molar mass and nOH is the number of hydroxyl groups per molecule of the liquid.
