Abstract
In recent years, there has been a widespread growth in the exploitation of wind energy, which required the development of larger and more robust wind energy conversion systems (WECS). Requirements in terms of power controllability during normal operation to allow some degree of control over reactive power and active power production and in the event of grid abnormalities , have increased, leading to the development of a new generation of WECS-the variable-speed wind generating systems with doubly fed induction machines. The renewable energy development in world could be hampered by several barriers which are financial, technical, regulatory/institutional and informational in nature that needs to be addresses for the viability of its development in any country. Various issues regarding wind energy systems are discussed in this paper.
