Abstract
This paper reports that an ionic liquid has been prepared by directly mixing FeCl3 and 1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium chloride (BMIC) with molar ratio 1/1 under dry argon atmosphere. We determined the densities, and surface tension of the pure ionic liquid (IL) in temperature range from 283.15 to 343.15 ± 0.1 K. The volumetric properties and the properties of surface for ionic liquid were discussed. The interstice theory is put forward and the thermal expansion coefficient, α, calculated using the new theory is in good agreement with experimental value.
