Abstract :
The salting-out effect of tripotassium phosphate on the liquid–liquid equilibria of the (water + acetone + 1-butanol + ethanol) system was investigated at 298.15 K. The water content of the organic phase decreased from 60.00% to 7.11% after the additions of tripotassium phosphate at 298.15 K. The experimental results were correlated with an excellent agreement by using the Othmer–Tobias equation where acetone, 1-butanol, and ethanol were taken as one fictitiously chemical compound. The salting-out effect of tripotassium phosphate under saturated conditions on this system was studied at different temperatures as well. A saturated solution of tripotassium phosphate at 333.15 K was used as an extractant to enrich acetone, 1-butanol and ethanol. When the salting-out factor was greater than 2/2, the recovery of acetone, 1-butanol and ethanol was approximately 100%. There was insignificant amount of tripotassium phosphate that dissolved in the organic phase.
