Fission as a filter for the study of heavy hypernuclei and other exotic atoms and nuclei

The use of nuclear fission as a reaction filter for the heavy hypernuclei, deeply bound pionic atoms, pionic, η-mesonic and antiprotonic nuclei study is proposed. A strong effect of background suppression may be reached by employing the fission fragment folding-angle technique in recoilless reactions on preactinide nuclei. Active fissile targets based on low-pressure proportional chambers are discussed.
