Ion transport in xenon gas Applications to double beta decay

Thermalized thallium ions are transported in xenon gas at pressures in the range 1–3 atm and electric fields in the range 5–63 V cm−1. No loss of ions is observed for drift distances up to 23 cm. Applications to searches for double beta decay in xenon are discussed.
