Abstract :
Tracks have been observed for the first time with a new scintillating fibers and image intensifiers based detector mounted directly inside the vacuum of the Tevatron collider to study pp− small angle scattering at s=1.8 TeV. This detector was conceived and developed at CERN and built at DEP for elastic scattering measurements at the Tevatron and future colliders. Two pairs of such detectors, symmetric in the vertical plane, will be located along the beam pipe at either side from the interaction point E0 in the Tevatron. The first detector has been recently installed by the E811 collaboration and is being tested with beam halo. Another one is being tested in a cosmic rap setup. Preliminary results are presented from both configurations and agree with preliminary tests performed at CERN/PS.
