Abstract
Publications on the dynamics of thin shells are reviewed in [1,2]. The Kirchhoff-Love and Timoshenko equations are encountered in the theory of shells most frequently. The Kirchhoff-Love equations have two characteristics of the hyperbolic type and four characteristics of the parabolic type, whereas the Timoshenko equations have six characteristics of the parabolic type. This fact makes it difficult to compare the solutions aof these equations obtained by finite difference methods because the choice of these methods depend on the type of the equations to be solved. In the present paper, the exact analytical solutions of these equations are constructed in terms of the Laplace transforms and then the inverse transforms are calculated using the inverse integral. These solutions are compared.
