Abstract :
NUCAM, a gamma camera based on a lightweight camera head with a detection assembly made of arrays of CdTe spectrometers, has been developed and clinically tested. The NUCAM head has a useful field of view of 16 × 16 cm and weighs about 4 kg. The NUCAM camera is a truly mobile camera, with a head mounted on a foldable arm; therefore, it can reach a patient from any desired direction, and image patients that cannot be transported to a stationary camera. The NUCAM camera was successfully tested in a clinical hospital environment for cardiac and thyroid nuclear medicine procedures. The paper briefly presents the camera and describes the diagnostic procedures performed at hospitals. The diagnostic capability of the NUCAM was compared to a conventional Anger-type camera. The advantages of the NUCAM camera over Anger-type cameras and the clinical diagnostic results will be described.
