Abstract :
A pulsed electron gun consisting of a beam forming electrode at cathode potential, a non-intercepting modulating anode to control the emission instead of a fine mesh grid and an accelerating anode is described. Once a second it delivers a 2.6 μs pulse of 120 mA at 40 kV. Experimental optimization of modulating anode voltage was done and the results are discussed. The gun is being operated in temperature limited conditions. The power supply features are briefly outlined.
