Abstract
Ionization cooling of muons is analyzed with the use of the kinetic equations method. The dispersion of the transverse coordinate, which is correlated to the particle energy and the gradient of the electron density in the slowing medium, is included for efficient longitudinal cooling; limitations for the dispersion function are arrived at.
