  • Abstract
This is the first report to show that imaging plates can be used as position sensitive detectors for positrons. A linear relation between the positron fluence and output signal intensity readout by a “PIXsysTEM II” is obtained. Positron fluence (fe+), and electron fluence (fe−) to an imaging plate and the output digital intensity readout of photons detected by an analyzer can be written as fp = αfe+β. α and β are constants and the values of logα and β are determined to be −4.20 ± 0.0645 and 0.973 ± 0.00901, respectively, using 58Co and 22Na positron emitters. The pixel size of the imaging plates is 25 μm × 25 μm for the analyzer. The linearity extends to four decades from 105 to 1011 positrons/cm2 which is from 6.25 × 10−1 to 6.25 × 105 positrons/pixel.
