Abstract :
The penetration of star-shaped and conic projectiles into plasticine and sand is studied. It is shown that for the chosen parameters of the medium, geometric characteristics of the projectiles, and the range of the initial velocities, the penetration depth of star-shaped bodies is close to that of cones with openings equal to the mean opening of the cones on the surfaces of which the lines of intersection of the faces of a star-shaped body at the external and internal angles lie. The number of leaves of the star weakly influences the penetration depth if the other parameters, including the mean angles, remain unchanged. If the penetration is oblique, then the behavior of a star-shaped body depends on the arrangement of the star leaves with respect to the plane formed by the normal to the surface of the medium and the velocity vector.
