Abstract
We describe a comprehensive physics program under preparation at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF) [1] aimed at exploring the electromagnetic and spin structure of the neutron using scattering of a polarized electron beam and a polarized 3He target. Among the experiments approved in this program are the measurements of the electric and magnetic form factors of the neutron, the study of the Q2 dependence of the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule, as well as the measurement of the neutron spin asymmetry in the large x Bjِrken region. This physics program attempts not only to investigate the structure of the nucleon, but also to provide crucial data for our understanding of the transition between perturbative and nonperturbative regimes of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), the theory of strong interactions.
