Abstract :
The CDF collaboration is designing a second-generation silicon detector, SVX II, for Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Portions of the SVX II have been constructed for the purpose of mechanical testing and design verification. The cooling performance of the ladders has been measured and compared to values expected from earlier design work, and there is an update on the expected effect of radiation damage. The bulkhead, a precision machined support structure made of beryllium, is discussed from both a design and fabrication perspective. Adhesives for ladder construction and bulkhead gluing are discussed. The focus of this presentation is on in-hand materials and measurements which have been completed in support of the mechanical design.
