  • Abstract
The construction of a silicon telescope as a possible extension of the HERMES experiment at DESY is under study. The challenge is to build a detector that is able to detect both slow recoiling hadrons, and fast (nearly minimum ionising) particles produced in deep-inelastic lepton scattering. The detector should cover a large area for a large geometric acceptance, and it should be mounted inside the scattering chamber thus lowering the threshold for the detection of low-energy recoil products. The impact of the large dynamic range of the signals on the design of the read-out electronics is also addressed.
