Abstract
Pulse ultrasound waves of frequency 823 kHz with pulse widths from 100 μs to 270s and different intensities were used to irradiate 2 mM terephthalic acid solution. The ‘pulse cavitation peak’ was first observed in a reverberating field. The cavitation activity generated by an ultrasound pulse appears to be a maximum with an appropriate choice of pulse width. For an explanation of this discovery, a new mechanism of the ‘pulse cavitation peak’ is advanced, and a corresponding theoretical analysis was completed. This work provided some new material for the study of the relationship between the pulse parameters and cavitation bubble dynamics in a reverberating field.
