Collective instability of bunches due to uncaptured ions

In this paper we study the collective stability of the train of bunches interacting with produced residual gas ions which are not captured by the beam. Coherent interactions of subsequent bunches of the train with such ions result in the beam break-up instability of the train. The instability can limit the beam intensity in the future electron–positron factories with a short bunch-to-bunch distance and provided that heavy ion production dominates.
