Abstract :
A new type of track counting method for particle identification was developed by using an Imaging Plate (IP). The distributions of the photo-stimulated luminescence (PSL) per track were measured after irradiation with 60Co gamma rays, 238U alpha particles, protons up to 12 MeV, carbon ions up to 290 MeV/u and neon ions up to 400 MeV/u. It was found that the PSL per track increases with energy loss per unit distance corresponding to linear energy transfer (LET).
