Abstract :
We report on the use of a multi-channel time-scaling (MCTS) technique for estimating the accidental coincidences in a β–γ coincidence experiment. Virtues of this technique are demonstrated by studying the β–γ coincidence counting of four samples of the radionuclides 134Cs and 192Ir with activities ranging from 1500 to 5000 s−1. The dead time of each channel was the nonextending type and adjusted to the same value in the region of 12–20 μs. The true coincidence rates obtained by means of the MCTS method are compared with those calculated from the mathematical model derived by Cox and Isham.
