Abstract
A combination of asymmetric truncated exponential functions with a symmetric Gaussian distribution seems to be the suitable mathematical function for fitting the experimental data obtained from the alpha particle spectrometry. In a previous work the variation of the fitting parameters using several source-detector geometries for a monoenergetic emission was studied. In this work, the shape of the alpha peak has been studied varying the thickness of the source and the angle of incidence of the alpha-particle in the sensitive zone of the detector. Some important conclusions about the energy loss suffered by alpha particles in the detection process can be drawn.
