Abstract :
We have developed a relatively simple model for the dynamics of fast ignition. The model provides the scaling laws for the minimum beam energy required for ignition and for the power beam in terms of the fuel density ϱ0 and of the ion range R. The model explains the discrepancies reported in the literature between 2D simulations and 1D estimations based on the consideration of a preformed hot spot. Besides, it predicts the scaling E0min∝R2 for the minimum energy.
