Abstract
The actual concept of the HIDIF-linac is based on a number of Bi+-sources followed by low-frequency RFQs. These beams are subsequently funneled and accelerated to the final energy of 48 MeV/u (10 GeV). The funneling process combines two beams with current I0 and frequency f0 to one linac with 2∗I0 and 2∗f0. In the ideal case this could be done without emittance growth. In this way the 25 mA beams from the Bi+-sources are funneled to a 400 mA linac beam for storage ring injection. The paper describes the design work on the crucial points of this injector concept and discusses the status of experiments.
