  • Abstract
    As the Ce concentration (x) was increased from 0 to 0.1 (complete replacement of Gd), the emission peak wavelength shifted from 310 (due to Gd3+ emission) to 350 nm (due to Ce3+ emission). The light intensity increased from a few percent to 46% of that in BaF2. The decay constant of the dominant emission approached 30–40 ns, which is characteristic of the Ce3+ luminescence. Although the radiation damage increased, its spontaneous recovery also increased by Ce3+ doping. Phosphorescence (very slow component), which was significant for x=0 (Ce-undoped), was hardly detectable for x>0.05.
