Abstract
Change in the counting rate for low energy photoelectrons was measured as a function of anode voltage, by using a double cylindrical open counter working in gas mixtures of N2–He, N2–Ne, and N2–Ar with various N2 concentrations from 10% to 100%. It was found that the value of the anode voltage relevant to some fixed multiplication factor was increased in proportion to the average ionization potential, the average excitation cross section of the working gases for electron impact, and in proportion to the size of the multiplication developing area.
