Abstract
An optical parallel interconnect was developed for digital data transmission in a detector complex. The optical interconnect comprises a transmitter, a 10-channel fiber ribbon cable, and a receiver. After optimization of the power dissipation, transfer length and speed, we have obtained a low-power, 10-channel optical parallel interconnect having a total bandwidth of 320 Mbps. The interconnect was examined concerning the transmission characteristics for channel-to-channel uniformity, temperature and voltage variation. No deterioration of performance was observed in the temperature range from 0°C to 60°C and in the voltage range of 4.5–5.5 V.
