Abstract :
In complete form, MINOS will consist of an 8 kt iron-scintillator calorimeter and, possibly, a 1 kt hydrid emulsion detector. The first stage of an investigation using this as a neutrino factory detector is reported, with particular emphasis on ντ appearance. Using a number of important assumptions and highly unoptimised analyses, it is found that a limit in Δm2 of 7.0×10−4 eV2 for sin2 2θ=1 at 90% CL is achievable.
