Status and commissioning results from HERA-B

HERA-B is a fixed-target B experiment installed at the HERA 920 GeV proton storage ring. It is the first spectrometer in a series of hadronic B factories in the coming years. The detector was completed at the beginning of the year 2000. The first 6 months of data-taking were mainly devoted to the commissioning of the apparatus. Here, the status of the detector components is reviewed. The detector performance and first results are presented.
