Abstract :
It is found that the translational symmetry may cause a series of Cooper minima (CM) in solids instead of a single one known to exist in the free atom. More than one CM for 4d states of Pd metal were obtained in photoemission experiments and reproduced by atomic and solid-state density functional calculations. Similar effects are predicted for the 4d bands of Ag, 5d bands of Au, and 5f bands of U metals. One of the solid-state CM for the U 5f states is found to superimpose the 5d→5f Fano resonance in Uranium metal.
