Abstract
Focusing conditions are deduced by canceling the significant contributions to the scan variable variances. Both TOF and crystal neutron spectrometry experimental configurations are considered. The focusing conditions deduced for ideal configurations can serve as 0th-order approximation in a numerical optimization process.
