DRIFT: a directionally sensitive dark matter detector

Directional Recoil Identification From Tracks-I (DRIFT) is the worldʹs first WIMP dark matter detector with sensitivity to the directions of nuclear recoils. The distribution of WIMP induced nuclear recoil directions offers the most powerful way of positively identifying a WIMP signal. This paper discusses the DRIFT-I detector and considers future high spatial resolution readout schemes.
