Abstract
A test has been carried out to evaluate the prospects to readout scintillating fibers by avalanche photodiodes (APD). A BICRON BCF-12 fiber of 2×2 mm2 cross-section and 10, respectively 35 cm length has been used. As lightsensor, a Hamamatsu 1×1 mm2 APD was coupled to the fiber. Electrons from a 106Ru source, passing the fiber, produce about 100 photoelectrons. Prospects for other geometries and possible improvements are discussed.
