The development of NMR techniques for the high precision measurement of target polarisation

Solid state polarised targets have been in use in both particle and nuclear physics experiments for nearly 40 years. The vast majority of these experiments have used the continuous wave (CW) NMR technique to measure the target polarisation. The development of this technique over this time period is presented.
