Abstract :
Spectroscopic transmission method using a pulsed neutron source combined with a 2-dimensional position sensitive detector is expected to give texture information of materials depending on the position. This method gives not only the transmission imaging of the objects but also the structural imaging obtained by the total cross-section of the materials including the Bragg edges. In order to study the structural change due to welding, we performed transmission experiments and obtained the cross-section map of the welded sample. In the case of welded samples, the cross-section changed depending on the position. It clearly showed the welded region, heat affected region, and as-cast region, and indicated texture change reflecting the cross-section. It suggests that the method will have a possibility to give more information on microstructure of materials, such as density change, grain size and so on.
