Tracking at CDF: Algorithms and experience from Run I and Run II

We describe the tracking algorithms used during Run I and Run II by the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, covering the time from about 1992 through the present, and discuss the performance of the algorithms at high luminosity. By tracing the evolution of the detectors and algorithms, we reveal some of the successful strategies used by CDF to address the problems of tracking at high instantaneous luminosities.
