Abstract :
We have studied the performance of two different 1 mm2 area multi-pixel Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (MPGM APDs) recently developed by Centre of Perspective Technologies and Apparatus (CPTA) in Moscow. One of the devices was developed for the detection of UV and blue light, and the other has a peak sensitivity in the green/red region. With moderate cooling (T=−28 °C) both devices show >30% photon detection efficiency at peak sensitivities (470 and 650 nm, respectively). The results for detection of scintillation light from an LSO and a plastic scintillator are also presented.
