Abstract
Thermodynamic interactions of 2,3-butanediol in water have been studied using the experimental results of density and viscosity in the temperature range of 303.15–318.15 K at an interval of 5 K. From the density data, excess molar volume and from the viscosity data viscosity deviation Δη and excess Gibbs free energy of activation ΔG∗E of viscous flow are investigated. The system studied exhibited very strong association due to hydrogen bonding between –OH groups. As a consequence all mixtures show very large magnitudes of VE.
