Cost modelling of waste in incineration plants: an application of fuzzy sets toward decision making under uncertainty

The estimation of total costs of incineration depends on a large number of different factors which influence the decision maker in bidding the final plant costs. Traditional sensitivity analysis of the costs on the model parameters is often not possible because of computational effort and subjective criteria for the choice of model parameters. The use of fuzzy numbers, as presented in this paper, allows for the estimation of uncertainty in the calculation of incineration plant and for quantification of some variables, which can be expressed in linguistic way.
