STUDIES ON BANDING PHENOMENA IN A SULPHURISED STEEL

Efforts were directed towards improving the quality of a sulphur bearing semi-free cutting steel by way of reducing the ferrite-pearlite banding level. An optimised homogenisation cycle could be established to achieve this goal and in course of the investigations for characterising the bands, specific processing stages were identified, while analysing the influencing parameters. An improved understanding of the phenomena, critical for the quality enhancement of the above grade of steel, could be achieved.
