Abstract
Dominant species are often considered to be free of the threat of habitat destruction because they are abundant in the undisturbed fragments that remain after destruction. Our simulation showed that (1) not only habitat destruction may constitute a disaster, depending upon the extent and magnitude of the destruction, but also it may constitute another disaster to deliberately restore the habitat after destruction, depending upon the extent and magnitude of increasing habitat; (2) if the restoration or increase of habitat is manipulated to two or three phases (or increase gradually) over time, no species will been driven to extinction.
