Abstract :
Scaling phenomena are widespread in nature. A very simple scaling law may be used to describe many complex phenomena. Our study showed that there exists a twin-scaling law of the minimum cost between the strategy and environment stress. One of the scales, s1, describes the base cost which each species must be paid in any environment, and the other scale s2 describes the effect of the interaction between the nonlinear stress of environment and the nonlinear strategy of species. This two-scaling law discover one of dynamical mechanisms of species diversity: if s2<1, it is possible for the intolerant species to reduce resource density in low-stress habitats to a level that is unprofitable for the tolerant species while the tolerant species will exclude intolerant species from high-stress habitats.
