Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between roles of self-efficacy and locus of control
in academic achievement. The sample consisted of 305 students –girls and boys- from 3rd grade of secondary
school in Rustam city who were selected by random sampling method step by step. Participants completed
the self-efficacy and locus of control questionnaire.
To assess the variables under study in this research, the self-efficacy questionnaire of Pintrich and de Groot
was used in order to measure the control locus in control locus questionnaire of Strickland and Nowiki. Also
the third-year GPA was used as academic achievement.
For statistical analysis of data, Pearson correlation and multiple variable regression methods were used. The
results of research showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between self-efficacy variables
and academic achievement, while there is a negative and significant relationship between locus of control
and academic achievement. Also the results of regression analysis showed that among the predictive
variables, self-efficacy has a major role in explaining the educational attainment.
