Abstract :
In this paper, the authors have examined the Philosophical, Economic, Sociological, and Religious manifestations of the teaching and learning process in a University in the 21st Century. They have argued that such key facets as student numbers, globalization and the use of ICT, underfunding and its resultant decline in facilities and others have negatively impacted on the very essence – teaching, research, and outreach – of the 21st Century University in Uganda. The paper recommends a change in policy towards market orientation and customer driven approaches, increased government funding, and increased collaboration with development partners.
