Abstract :
The World Heritage Site Sundarban region is characterized by lack of electricity, safe
drinking water, health services, educational facilities, and has poor communication
network. The main problems of this area are limited livelihood opportunities; high
proportion of people belonging to backward communities; low levels of irrigation of
cropping; high rate of unemployment; and high dependency on natural resources that
threaten natural system and protected areas. The delta region is socio-economically
backward due to low agricultural productivity, lack of proper health and medical facilities
and also educationally backward. In the present study educational status is measured by
educational facilities available in the study area as regards to Primary, Middle, High, and
Higher Secondary level.
