Abstract :
Research has been undertaken to study the high temperature mechanical properties of Ti-22Al-26Nb (Al%) at various temperatures (900 °C–1000 °C) and strain rates. The orthorhombic alloy was found to exhibit superplasticity. Superplastic conditions were determined and typical microstructural features were revealed using SEM. Superplastic behavior was characterized based on mechanical and microstructural analyses. The as received alloy has a two phase microstructure of B2 precipitates in an orthorhombic matrix. Maximum elongation of 230% was obtained at a strain rate of 9.75 × 10−5 s−1 at 960 °C.
