Abstract :
The influence of compression deformation on microstructure changes in the as-cast intermetallic alloy Fe-40 at.% Al doped with zirconium, boron and carbon was investigated in the temperature interval from 600 to 900 °C. It was established that the microstructural evolution depended essentially on the slip direction. In the temperature range 600–700 °C, where a〈111〉-type superdislocations operate, the formation of microbands proceeds and dynamic recrystallization develops only weakly. In contrast, in the temperature range 750–900 °C, where a〈100〉-type dislocations become the predominant mode of deformation, substructure formation takes place and dynamic recrystallization is activated abruptly, leading to a considerable refinement of the original structure. This effect is connected with the greater ability of perfect dislocations to climb in comparison with superdislocations.
